In an effort to fight the good fight against sexism, I’m not going to lock this as a ladies-only entry, but instead will trust my readers – male and female alike – to know their own levels of tolerance for girly, internal bleedy things and will simply place a tidy warning prior to the following intimate feminine information.
Warning! Upcoming TMI – Intimate Feminine Stuff About My Innards
So, WTF. I thought going off birth control would be all freeing and healthy and shit. But nobody told me that I would get instant, rampant bleeding! I do not need to have two periods this month, of all months! I’m crampy and there is some serious red floodgate action happening in my pants. Make the bleeding stop!
Have any of you gone off birth control after a few years and had this happen? I can’t check my product information on the NuvaRing packaging, because it’s back at the house. Is this normal?
Ouch ouch ouch fuck fuck fuck bleedy
Implanon
I’m pretty sure that a second bleeding is comman if you stop birthcontrol in the middle of a cycle.
Also, expect your cycles to be very wonky for a few months as your system tries to even itself out.
The full prescribing information is here.
*hugs*
Can you take a hot bath when you get to your mum’s tonight? I find that they help. Also, a heating pad or hot water bottle on your lower abdomen, and if your mum can rub your lower back, it might help.
Sorry – I just realised that I’m GASsing (Geek Answer Syndrome).
To make up for it, here are more hugs and loves and snuggles. (Oh, and stash enhancement! Because stash enhancement makes any crafter feel better.)
It’s very normal, unfortunately. I conveniently managed to forget how much worse pms and cramps were before the pill, and had a nasty reminder. It will take a couple of months for your hormones to rebalance themselves (or whatever it is that hormones do…).
Good luck. With everything.
Oh good. Thanks, Cat. That’s comforting.
On the other hand, this is less like a “second bleeding” and more like my entire uterus is making a prison break. I guess the BC I’ve been taking has been reducing the amount of blood that I would normally lose, because this is like the opening of the elevator doors at the Overlook Hotel. Seriously, it’s like my body is trying to commit suicide through my vagina. Argh!
Oh, don’t you worry about my stash enhancement. I have already taken care of that. You bet. Day one in Oakville = trip to the wool bin to take advantage of their 30% off closing sale. Result = yarn. I got a bunch o’ mohair, some merino, and a little fun Noro mix because I’m a sucker for all things Japanese. Also some wool handwash soap. And some needles. And my mom got me a new stitch counter.
So the stash is growing! Even as my living space has become restricted by about 1200 fewer feet.
I had the same problem when I stopped taking the pill (after 10 years or so). I still have worse cramps than I did while on the pill, although the bleeding did lessen eventually.
Hot water bottles! Tea! Cheesy movies!
Despite the cut, I just couldn’t resist. And then I learn more interesting things. It’s better than watching surgery 😉
