They’re the New Fools In Town

I’ve infected encouraged two more folks via my network to join Live Journal, putting my kill count number of recruits at over ten (yes, Joe, we are all beholden to our Makers, so even though she’s your girlfriend, she gets chalked on my wall, and also onto Chrissy’s before me – such is the chain of LJ).

My favorite thing is watching the ones that struggled valiantly against my efforts slowly settle into the neighborhood, posting comments against their will. Also, the many that many signed on “just to read, not to write” and have begun the slippery descent into writing “the odd post here and there”. Mwah ha ha.

First, we have – not to be confused with someone who has a David Lynch fixation (that I know of), or an unfortunate case of stomach parasites (that I know of) – she is a fellow Buffy lover and cyberbabe with a cool job and cool kitties: one named after a fetishized Star Wars character, the other with a… commanding presence. Joycelyn is a patient and creative woman with a passion for knitting wool into scarves and other handy things, like trampolines and sails and cyrogenic chambers. Wool’s so damn versatile. I need to get me some sheep. Hers is the star that navigates homewards to.

Next, we have , my dear friend and extremely casual Joyce scholar (not a scholar of , but rather of that crazy Irish writer born in 1882). Dave lives south of the border on the blood-stained streets of NYC. Dave’s a badass with a banjo. A passionate man, he’s into making music and absorbing the kind of information only available on the internet and within the pages of Uncle John’s Bathroom Reader. He seems magnetically drawn to the Victory Cafe. I think if he threw a celebrity dinner party, it might include Howard Zinn, Adam Sandler, Justin Rutledge, Princess Di’s ghost, and Moby (as the main course). He’s the nicest, whitest guy on the block, and I’m still not entirely convinced that he isn’t the man that the character of Lloyd Dobler was modeled on. Love this guy.

Welcome to the neighborhood, kids! Please accept my humble gift of starter icons.

  1. Hey, thanks for the icons. I was feeling naked there for a while. And thanks for saying all those nice things about me. BTW Tapeheads is an incredibly funny, really dated 80’s movie starring John Cusack and Tim Robbins as fledgling music video producers. I’ll have to lend it to you.

  2. In every which way. Lurking is okay, but you get a real sense of ownership of the community when you’ve got a wee icon of your own and a linked name. I’m delighted that you started up with the interests linking, too, something Davey has shunned. It can make for endless amusement during a dull day at work, scrolling through the journals of your fellow waffle lovers or people with similar music tastes or fandoms or what have you.
