Disaster! Horror! Travesty! The local Burger King in my neighborhood is for sale – our only Weston fast food retailer is leaving, and then WHAT WILL WE EAT??? When guests come to visit, how will we feed them? When I have children, how shall they not starve!?!!?!

Also, this hilarious store at the end of Weston road that must have been a hunting shop is up for sale. It has one really distinctive feature in the form of a massive fiberglass fish-head sticking out from the facade over the door. I briefly entertained the idea of selling my condo and buying it so that I could open a “Silver Snail Nostalgia” shop that would sell all the old toys that we don’t have room to keep on display at the store, but quickly realised that with the large fish, even if I spraypainted it, the store would become known as “Silver Fish Nostalgia” and that has nasty insectoids-under-the-sink-call-pest-control connotations.

My retail ambitions will have to be put on hold once more.

  1. Not the Burger King!! It was very reassuring to us when we were wandering around up there.

  2. It’s a bit of a gastronomic wasteland up here, I have to admit. We’ve got one Thai restaurant that used to be a milkshake place, a fish and chips shop, a 2-4-1 pizza and my beloved Burger King. There is a Tim’s kiosk at the Esso gas station at the intersection of Church and Jane, but it’s too much of a hike.

Mostly we live here for the greenery and the Edison Twins house. And apparently Weston is home of the bicycle. And also, my new bathroom is going to Rock. Out. Hard.

  3. Not even a McDonalds?!?!?!? Moira, where are you living?

Maybe you can fry eggs on your new towel rack.

  4. my faith in Canadian institutions of eating has been dented.

of course it will… think of the towel rack possibilities.

  5. Where I live there’s a Tim Horton’s on one corner and a *gasp of delight* 7-11 ON THE OTHER.

That way I can have a coffee in the morning and a slurpee at night! Loves it!

  6. I grew up on Emmett ave and went to Bala Jr School right beside Weston rd.. my doctors was right across the street from that Burger King. I can remember going into it around 1981 and demanding to know where the Star Wars/Empire Collectible Glasses were that I had heard about. They told me something about not being available in Canada. It was hard news to take as a 4 year old. It will be sad to see it go. Crazy how things change.
