Achievements of this weekend

– entertained , , and on Friday night… well, really they entertained me, but it was Chez Pipes so whatever
– made the universe’s pastiest, wettest, doughiest, most undercooked peach pie
– saw on Saturday afternoon (ps – , I have your japanese maple & it’s purty!)
– bought my very own Pyrex pie plate
– eating quesedillas, eating butternut squash, eating steak, eating apple crumble, eating enough for twelve people…
– got a lovely bouquet and a much-desired soil aerator as a grad gift from Paul & Uli
– enjoyed a full Sunday of gardening with JVL, mulching and replanting, with the shovelling and the raking and the back pain
– set the groundwork for a rockery
– watched ‘Bad Boys 2’, the dreadful yet oddly compelling Texas cheerleader vs. French teen flick ‘She Gets What She Wants’, and the second episode of HBO’s ‘Rome’ (Ciaran Hinds continues to be awesome)
– finally won the Firetruck for getting all ten crash headlines in ‘Burnout 3’
– freaked out last night about not liking my job and hating feeling constantly disengaged and bored by something I am supposed to love doing (ie. writing stories)
– realised I am now extremely pre-menstrual

Am intensely sad to report that, even though I circled it repeatedly in highlighter, wrote happy faces in the margin, placed it as both a first- and second- round pick and added a little begging ‘please!’ to my selection of Dave Chappelle’s Block Party to my film festival selection book, I did not get the tickets. will be crushed when I tell him this afternoon.

Now I have to go online tomorrow morning at 7am sharp and try to buy advance regular tickets for ‘Block Party’ with the rest of the plebes. May have to take day off work on Wednesday, Sept. 14th to go see 9am screening at Varsity 8. Damn it!

Instead, I got these selections:
Brokeback Mountain SAT 09/10/2005 06:00pm
Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride SAT 09/10/2005 09:00pm
Tristram Shandy: A Cock and Bu TUE 09/13/2005 07:15pm
Beowulf & Grendel WED 09/14/2005 09:00pm 2 Wallace & Gromit – The Curse of the Were-Rabbit SAT 09/17/2005 09:30am

  1. Goodness. Erin and I watched “She gets what she wants” last week.

I feel oddly closer to you now.

Also. Tree! Tree! Well, sapling, but TREE!

Yay! Now, I just need to get it from you.

    Thanks, sweetie.

  2. Tim Burton and Helen Bonham Carter will probably be presenting the SAT screening of Corpse Bride. Sit up front if you can!

  3. Thanks! I’ll try my best.

Are you working the midnight madness showings again this year? I almost signed up for ‘The Great Yokai War’, but then decided I didn’t want to go see it alone and JVL will likely be working that night. Plus, it’s going to be a gore-filled nightmare.

Any suggestions for other movie picks that I should fight for tomorrow morning?

  4. Not really, alas – I’ve been so swamped with moving recently that I haven’t been digging into the program book like I normally would.

I’m working all 10 MM shifts again this year, after swearing last year that I would never do something so stupid again.

  5. Did you pop the pie back in the oven? Did it improve? Or did you just give up and bury it in the dark of night?

  6. Sadly, no, there was no way to save it.

We took the pie out into the back yard and shot it. Then we played ‘Taps’.

Tragic, I know, but at least it’s out of its misery.

  7. Sarcasmom reminded me that with some fruit pies where the fruit is very juicy, adding tapioca or corn starch is a good way to soak up some of the liquid. Her theory is that it was just too wet inside to bake. That doesn’t explain the edges though… I don’t know. Zombie Pie!
