And also my “Quilt for the Cure” entry – Double Dutch

While I was working on the Nintendo Super Mario Bros. quilt, I was also under deadline for my submission to Quilt for the Cure aka TheQuilt.com – a breast cancer support project.

My first idea was to do a black and white log cabin piece, but alas, we babysat a rather large and drooling bull mastiff, who took a liking to my cotton collection, all laid out temptingly on the floor, and chewed it to bits.

So, I started again from scratch right around Christmas time, and in just over two months managed to piece and hand-quilt a Dutch-themed windmills and tulips crib-sized quilt (I think it was around 46×58″ or so).

It will be featured in the online Quilt for the Cure auction later this year, and I can’t wait to see how much money it will raise for charity! The colours and design are my own original creation, all hand-cut with no templates, although I was inspired by an Amish quilt I saw in a 1970s quilt book by Rachel Pellham.

The photos are a little dark, but you still get the idea. Enjoy!

  1. Very nice! I like the colors and I LOVE the tulip designs (did you really draft them yourself? They look great!)

  2. That’s really nicely done! I’ve never quite understood the logistics of how many pieces of stuff you cut.
