The Latest Hootenany

1. I just sent out the Evite for Toronto’s Sante Wine Fest happening Sat, May 6th. Just holla if you wanted to be on the list, but weren’t included — I may not have your e-mail, or I might think you hate wine.

2. Got my Canadian passport renewed yesterday, bought a long overdue ticket to visit in NYC, am flying out there evening of May 19 and coming back to TO morning of May 22.

3. Am thinking of signing up for Ryerson’s “Macromedia Studio” course, 42 hours of learning about Dreamweaver and Flash for just $500, with an idea that maybe work will pay for it, and also if I become a student I should be able to purchase a copy of Studio at the $700 Educational price rather than the $9 gigillion dollar commercial price.
Class would be Tuesday nights from May to August.

4. Preparing to work on an Alzheimer’s quilt made out of my dad’s shirts, screened photos, translucent fabric panels etc. for a travelling exhibition. It’s due for submission June 5th so I’d better get cracking on it.

5. Bought sinensis.ca today with the idea of building a tea website. It will be my learning page for messing about with Flash.

6. Watched “Hustle & Flow” last night. Meh. I have a hard time feeling emotional attachment to a dude who lives by selling the bodies of women to get cash and microphones. I like Terence, but seriously, there was nothing sweet about his relationship with any of the three hos he was pimping in that film; it was all about abuse of power. Music was all right, but I could have lived without the violence and swearing. Am I becoming a “chick” in terms of movie viewing? Maybe.

7. Feeling stunningly unmotivated today. Blar!

  1. As it turns out, I won’t be joining you for sante. I’m going with my manager and our sommelier to the trade side of the event. That means free. Awesome.

Thanks for the invite, though, and I hope you have a great time.

  2. Figured that might be the case. My friend Olivia missed it four years in a row when she was working as a line cook for Sante events at Patriot and then Fressen. This year she’s missing it because she’ll be in Spain, which is a much, much better reason. She’s a lot less likely to cut the crap out of her hands with really large knives and burn her arms on the top of the stove, too. Cooking is a dangerous profession!

Enjoy your industry event, and the free wine. We’ll raise a glass in your honour. 🙂
