I don’t usually knit in acrylic, but I happened to find some free balls in my Mom’s basement, conveniently the right colour (black) and the right weight (worsted), so I cast on and set to it. The more I think on it, acrylic seems like a logical choice for legwarmers – it’s very warm, since it doesn’t breathe like wool, and it’s washable, which is good since in Canada these babies are going to get crusted with road salt ASAP (boo hoo!).
Been meaning to knit this pattern for at least a year, glad I finally got around to it. Instructions are clear and simple, and sizing worked out for me perfectly. I have skinny legs, though, so ladies with larger calves may want to cast on an extra 12 sts. Good news is, you can try these on as you go, once you get past the initial ribbing (remember, it folds over, so the top should be loose enough to go over 1/2 the ribbing).
Warning: this does get a bit unwieldy as you get to the end, so be sure to have patience. Oh, and making 3 feet of i-cord is boring work best done while watching TV or listening to an audiobook.
(ps – This should never have taken me 3 months to complete; I worked on socks and a shawl at the same time, and spent a month in Thailand, so really I think this is more of a one-week project MAX!)
