San Diego Comic Con Tales (or, an Annotated Geekery)

Cool folkses I met:
NYC Godfather of Graffiti SEEN, and his lady Sally with their fantastic Bronx accents; comic artists Scott Morse, Jeff Smith (who just completed his 9 volume Bone series!) and thanks to , Chynna Clugston-Major; Disney animator Joe Haidar shared seafood with RVL, JVL, Robert and I; Dreamwave mastermind Pat Lee and his crew, esp. Candace and Doc (we parked at their booth all weekend, and sold Transformers comics); the top 3 Diamond execs, incl. Steve Geppi and his family (really nice folks); ate a delicious and posh dinner with JVL, Rainbow, Rainbow’s sister Cree and her partner Jeff (y’all better start watching “Stargate: Atlantis” and Cree’s new show “Drawn Together” this season! or else!)

Cool folks I saw at a distance:
JOSS WHEDON AND THE ENTIRE CAST OF FIREFLY (I was humming with joy, until someone went up to the mike and pronounced his name “Josh”); Sarah Michelle Gellar (her new movie “The Grudge” looks very very scary); Jude Law and the “Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow” creators; Simon Pegg from British sitcom “Spaced” and “Shaun of the Dead” (totally hilarious)

Exclusive toys I ran my ass off to acquire for the Silver Snail:
Mattel She-Ra and Batman unmasked variants; Hasbro “Silver Saga Edition” Star Wars sandtroopers (by the armful); Neca Quentin Tarantino Crazy 88 figure, Spidey Bust, Freddy Krueger action figure (didn’t manage to get a MOTU Hordak bust); Mezco Hellboy and Living Dead Doll exclusives; Gentle Giant Star Wars crystal bust-ups (but not the Luke bust, although I think Ciaran got one); Happy Tree Friends 6-figure set and Flippy “Carve Your Heart Out” figure

Exclusive toys I didn’t run my ass off for, but we got anyway:
Palisades Exploded Inspector Clouseau, Adventure Kermit in Indiana Jones gear, all the Sideshow, Diamond, Art Asylum… I don’t even remember the rest

So, yeah. It was a major geek-out session. But at least I didn’t dress up in any sort of jedi/anime/Marvel/DC costume. Or rather, there’s no proof that I did.
