“The Haul”

Wow. ‘s big box of gifts for me? Full of CORDLESS POWER TOOLS.

I can now tear down and reassemble the world. Cordlessly.

DeWalt’s cheerful yellow reciprocating saw, circular saw, hammer drill and gooseneck spotlight, all with rechargeable, interchangeable batteries. And drill bits.

Also? A gift certificate to get a spa treatment at Aveda.

Talk about appealing to a girl’s yin and yang.

Mom got me some lovely treats, too, including a knit orange hat and scarf, which I wore to work today, some lip gloss, and the most lovely gift of all, her assistance with sanding and repainting the kitchen cupboards. 🙂

My cousins were awesome, with and Jason’s gift just arriving yesterday in the mail – a call to arms for me to embrace my inner housewife, with Nigella Lawson’s scrumptious baking cookbook ‘How to be a Domestic Goddess’ (I love it!) and a crazy ‘as seen on TV’ chocolate treat-making machine (obesity may be in the cards for me; perhaps I shall just give up resisting and go along with it’s evil plan willingly).

and Cait sent e-mail gift certificates to Justin and I, which I just discovered recently due to long neglect of my inbox at home in lieu of scrambling to read books for class. I feel bad, because I sent Keira something (did you get it yet cuz?) but I thought Caius and Cait had the whole “extreme poverty, no exchanging gifts please” thing going on, and since they are in a place where me mailing them something would cost more on their end in import taxes than it cost me to buy and send, I’m kinda stumped. I can’t even really get them a gift certificate online, since the same problem applies to futureshop.ca or anywhere else, and I obviously can’t get them anything that they can pick up IN the Bahamas. If anyone has any good ideas, let me know. Until then, I’ll stew in gifting guilt and keep my thinking cap on.

Justin’s Mom and Stepdad got me the fifth boxed set of MST3K, which was totally unexpected and uncalled for and awesome and I am just over the moon with it!!! They also got Justin a Gamecube, which he and I have been gleefully playing Double Dash on whenever we get a free moment off work (which is rare).

Must go – have spent enough time evading work with this post already. Hope everyone had a festive and fatmaking holiday!

  1. How about mailing them a gift card, which they can then hand off to someone who’s doing a Florida jaunt or similar and can smuggle their chosen prezzies back in? (I’m assuming that C&C are kind of stuck where they are for the time being.) The authorities there don’t seem to be too concerned about residents bringing stuff in that they’ve bought in the States.

  2. I am jealous of your cordless power tools, I am.

I got a new wrench set ( I think Daddy forgot he bought me one last year, and I got one from Gram aaages ago, so that makes 3!) and this nifty screwdriver/drill bit set. I need a better drill so the bits will work.

  3. Glad you like the pressies…(and btw, I actually forgot to put one of them in the box, so that’ll get posted shortly…) – did you get my emails? And nope, no mail from you yet…but now I know, I will eagerly be checking my box in antici-PA-tion every day! 😀

  4. We mailed stuff down there, and actually there aren’t taxes on a huge amount of things (eg: DVD’s and books are exempt) and really, on the value of items we can afford, they wouldn’t even have to pay *that* much…so you could still mail them something if you wanted…or yeh, the gift cards from somewhere online would be good, because they can always pick stuff and have it mailed (to the Florida address)…

  5. you and my mom could definitely be friends: she ASKED my dad for a power drill for christmas, and was super excited to get it. yeesh. though really, this worked to my benefit in the end since we used said power tool to install my new closet shelving unit. good times.
