Sorry to leave you hanging

Should have updated last night, but instead spent the time fiddling about on my laptop before going to sleep, trying to create my “Wordsworth Sucks” LJ icon for today, by splicing four frames into an animated GIF that would read: “Fact: William Wordsworth was born in COCKermouth, Cumberland” / picture of William / “Fact: William Wordsworth looked like Montgomery Burns” / picture of Mr. Burns” Alas, I have TOTALLY forgotten how to make animated GIFs using ImageReady, and I was too pooped to relearn last night, so it will have to wait until tomorrow, after my pub meeting with (yay!)

The presentation went well, I think: I ended up solving my little overwriting problem by adhering like glue to the letter of the law while urinating all over it’s spirit. My “one-page” document was printed on legal, not letter-sized paper, and was shamelessly double-sided, but I am proud to report that I left the margins pristine and the font at Times New Roman 12. My lecture was delivered at something approaching the speed of light, due to nervous fast-talking; the faces of my classmates had that squinty-eyed, tilted-head, pursed-lips look that you get when you’re trying to listen to someone speak to you in an incredibly thick accent or when you’re attempting to navigate a particularly byzantine phone tree system (“…for Constantinople, press 1, for Istanbul, press 2, if you are a Minotaur please hold the line and someone will be with you shortly…”) BUT at the conclusion of my rapid-fire argument, they applauded, which made me a very happy little academic.

Justin stayed downtown to take the TTC home with me, which was lovely, but the extreme limitation of his diet due to continued mouth pain is making him weak and I felt very guilty for eating Harvey’s in front of him (I had no choice! I was starving!). I think if he’d known his out-patient surgical procedure was going to involve such an involved and painful recuperation process, he might have booked a little more time off of work. But, what’s done is done and so I’m spending time today thinking up tasty soft or liquid foods to make tonight. Anyone have ideas? And no, , I am NOT going to make your veggie lasagna and put it in the blender, so don’t even suggest it. Besides, tomatoes are too acidic to be brought into contact with raw, healing flesh.

  1. Glad it went well, hon – there’s a load off your mind.

Isn’t it all about the smoothies while recovering? You may have limited options (ie no oranges/other citrus fruits, strawberries/other things with seeds), but yogurt-based banana/grapey goodness is definitely an option.

I recommend avoiding any excessive use of pudding – when I got my wisdome teeth out it put me *totally off* pudding for life – I don’t want to see that happen to another unfortunate soul. 🙂

  2. Black. bean. soup.
Hearty, filling, satisfyingly flavourful and spicy…. I had a small bowl at the Jersey Giant last night and it actually FILLED ME WITH JOY.

  3. clam chowder, cream of mushroom soup. Veggie lasagna, pureed. Hell, just feed the man ice cream. I too look forward to the day, sometime this year, where I have to have my wisdom teeth extracted. I am waiting until after prelims cos otherwise I think I might fail out of grad school from pain killer overdose and lack of energy from not eating.
