In all the excitement of moving desks and Justin’s upcoming birthday, I forgot to post about my wonderful lunchhour yesterday. I decided to go look at artsy stuff, since it’s ridiculous that I work 30 seconds away from the Art Gallery of Ontario and I haven’t been in there in almost two years. Plus, it was sunny and my boss is away and I needed to get outside and I’d already taken Justin lunch at the Snail two days in a row, so off I went to pursue my own little adventure.
First stop, Aboveground Art Supplies, my favorite art supply store in the whole city. I popped in there to look at the option of buying some bronze spraypaint to possibly maybe change the colour of the light we’re installing in the upstairs hallway. See, I’m going with this chocolatey mocha tan theme, and I feel like the shiny chrome fixture might not jam with the beautiful art nouveau wood-framed Mucha prints we’re putting up in the hallway. Aboveground didn’t have any bronze spraypaint, so I got gold and a mini-can of espresso and thought I’d try those. I was waffling about actually buying these things, when I decided, what the hell, it’s only ten bucks, and I took them to the cash register. And prompty won them! My register tape had a banner of red stars on it, so I got my purchase for free! Aboveground ROCKS!
Then, off to the AGO to browse through the gift shop, looking for Umbra frame inspirations, also for the hallway. Lo and behold, there was a pretty brushed nickle frame which, although I have no room for it at home, is now adorning my new desk at work. Did I mention it was 40% off? Yes, the AGO gift shop is downsizing it’s stock, so they have a ton of cool artsy stuff on sale for 40-50% off! Go there!
Today, I brought a big green chocolate cake with sparkly St. Patty’s Day rings and nasty quantities of icing to work. Go me! Except I didn’t buy a birthday cake for Justin because his Mom is making him carrot cake tonight, and now I think maybe he’s mad at me because I got cake for work people and not him. But I didn’t get a cake on my b-day, so I thought it was just passe at this age. Maybe at 27, but not 24? Bah.
Ow ow ow my head hurts and I think it’s this stupid monitor at my new workstation – half the screen is discoloured this purply-blue and it flickers constantly. And my mouth is really dry and I took migraine Advil and drank 3 bottles of water already but it’s not helping. I better not be getting sick right before my eleven day writing marathon, or there will be no joy in Moiratown.
flashing computer screen = can’t be good
or perhaps it’s because you had one too many pieces of sugar-loaded st paddy’s cake? mmmm…. st. paddy’s…..
all birthdays should have cake. Really, it’s one of the few reasons to have birthdays.
