Mossy Knotty Hat

Using Amy’s hand-me-down ball of anonymous greeny wool to make these. Total guess at brand, colourway, yardage. Fingers crossed it will make a whole hat (I suspect it will, there is a LOT of yarn in that unruly ball).

July 29: Casting on 120 sts, joined in round. Going to work on this over the weekend at Andy Capp’s house in Port Dover while playing board games! 🙂

Aug 2: Could have finished this last night but was busy in the kitchen. Did the last 15 rows this morning before work. 27g yarn leftover from my 100g ball. LOVE the cables, they are so beautiful.

Aug 5: Waiting for Lorna’s Laces to arrive so I can start Amy’s Koyo, until then going to drive myself insane with sticky, fluffy, thinner-than-dental-floss mohair. Let the good times roll? O_o

Oct 14: Finished at last! Phew, that took a while. I found the lace repeats difficult to get into a rhythm with, since there seemed to be no logic to the repeats. I was working with the written instructions, not the charts, so perhaps that was part of the problem, not sure.

Was stumped when I got to Part 2, had a complete mental block about the short rows. Still not sure how I managed to follow the instructions to pick up 164, yet only had 128 when I cast off. Hmm. Would have liked a little diagram showing how the back and forth of the short rows worked with the completed lace crescent, for clarity and confidence.

Used about 270 yards of laceweight mohair/silk blend, doing full set of repeats with no mods. Very lovely finished product, though small, but I don’t know if I would tackle this a second time. Have not blocked it yet, unsure whether blocking will ruin the nice 3D effect of the leaves.

Audiobook: Listened to Ian Carmichael read Dorothy L. Sayers’ “Whose Body?” while knitting this but was too distracted by the lace to listen properly, so did most of it silently.
